Valentine's Day, Odd Songs & The Mortgage Co.

Posted by Elysabeth Williams

On Twitter, I found (via @booksbelow) this fun article; a Craigslist-esque Victorian Personal Ad from the late 1800's, posted on the New York Times. Goes to show you, some things never change.

However, SOME things do. I was standing outside a huge gas station yesterday. One of those places that has flat panel tv's piping in music or commercials the entire time you pump gas. I've never really paid any attention to them, as I feel the gas station should be one place where you should be paying attention to what's going on, instead of zoning out to whatever drivel they're trying to peddle.
Absentmindedly, I was singing along to the song that was playing, not really giving any thought about it until I got to the chorus...

"Take the skinheads bowling, take them bowling... "

Wait, what!?
Am I really listening to this song at the gas station? I had to snicker-giggle because it just was that odd... standing out in the snow in a Walmart singing along to Camper Van Beethoven.

And lastly; Today, the loviest of lovey days, I get a phone call from the Mortgage Company, telling me my payment is due. I like to call it, the Captain Obvious moment du jour.

MC: We'd like to talk to you about your mortgage account.
Cheeky: Sure. Is there something wrong?
MC: No, we would just like to extend the offer to let you make the payment over the phone.
Cheeky: No thanks. I'll pay it online like I have for the last seven years.
MC: Yes, I see that you've been doing that. Would you like to pay for it on the phone?
Cheeky: No.
:pause:
MC: Well, um. Your payment is due on the 1st and see it's the 14th.
Cheeky: My terms say I can make payments up until the 16th without penalty, is that wrong?
MC: No, Well it IS due on the 1st but yes, you have until the 25th before we contact the Credit Bureau.
Cheeky: Why are you calling me then?
 :awkward silence:
Cheeky:  I'm not giving my information to you over the phone to make a payment that is not technically late yet because you want me to.
MC: Is there a reason why you pay it the same time every month?
Cheeky: That's when We get paid.
MC: :pause: All right, then.

Cheeky: I guess that's it then?
MC: Yes... I guess... have a good day.
Cheeky: You too.

I hung up the phone in giggles, and actually made the O.o face in conclusion.

Well, I'm wishing, the happiest of Valentine's Days to everybody, whether you chose to participate or not. ::poke poke::

Hi! Found you here!

Very, very funny stuff. Things like that ALWAYS happen to me. So much that I consider it just normal.

Glad there's someone else in my world.

Marisa isn't it just crazy?

The MC didn't call back today. I'm not sure they will. I hope not, anyway. I paid them, so perhaps that will satisfy their need to call me like a spurned ex!

I can't help but say, "In your face Mortgage Company!" Quick on your feet there, girlie! In this economy they should be glad you can pay them. Happy Late V-Day to you and thanks for sharing.
